I am passionate about helping young women find their unique voices.

I know how hard it can be to feel confident about your body, training and career path, and my mission is to help teen and pre-professionals feel courageous enough to follow their dreams.

A Little About Me

and why I started this program

A principal dancer with the Colorado Ballet for 22 years, I was blessed to have a long and fulfilling career as a professional ballerina.

After spending over two decades performing and teaching professionally in the Dance World, I have witnessed a broad range of challenges that many dancers face, mostly because of disempowering mindsets and habits they developed during their sensitive teen years.   And I was one of them!

As someone who was painfully shy, my teen years were fraught with anxiety, fears around whether I could “make it,” body shame, and just never feeling good enough.

When I became professional,  I realized that if I were going to truly be successful and have a long, healthy and fulfilling career, I would need to unlearn many of my limiting beliefs, and re-learn empowering mindsets and habits to support my body, mind and spirit.  The journey was not easy, and I felt called to share what I learned to help other young women avoid the mistakes I made, and feel truly empowered, no matter their dance goals.  Thus,  RISE: The Empowered Dancer Mentoring Program was born.

In addition to my passion for Dance, I am also a Yoga Alliance certified yoga instructor, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Trainer, and National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Nutrition Coach.  I have incorporated the wisdom of these techniques to create more resiliency in my own body, and I love using all of them to provide a holistic approach to mentoring others. I am a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine (IADMS) where I continue to grow my knowledge of cutting edge training and performance techniques that keep dancers strong and healthy.

RISE Program FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this private or group coaching?

The RISE full engagement program is set up to be a combination of 1:1 coaching sessions and group sessions. I also offer private-only coaching packages.

Q: How is this program different from what I might learn through social media or in the typical studio setting?

You will receive individualized coaching tailored to your unique gifts, challenges, and needs from an experienced professional.  This 1:1 support fills in the gaps that sometimes occur in even the best studio environments. Social media can be an excellent general reference, but can be unreliable and may even be detrimental to your specific circumstances.

Q: My Schedule is very full…what is the time committment like?

One of the challenges of pre-professional training is having enough time. This program is geared to help you feel less stressed and overwhelmed, both through the tools you’ll learn, as well as the flexibility of the program. The 1:1 sessions are scheduled around your availability, including nights and weekends. The group sessions and workshops occur monthly and recordings are available if you cannot attend live.

Q: Is there a specific age range for the program?

The full RISE program has dancers whose ages range from 12 to 25.  However, I work with clients who are in all stages of their training and careers, including adult professionals looking for extra support and holistic practices for managing the physical and emotional demands of a dance career.

Q: Do I have to enroll by a specific deadline?

The RISE program is set up in 3-month cohorts in the Fall and Winter to coincide with the traditional dance studio and academic year.  The deadline for the Autumn 2022 cohort is September 30. However, you can sign up for private coaching packages at any time.

Q: Is this program online or in-person?

The RISE program is intended to be online through Zoom 1:1 coaching and group sessions. Some dancers who are local to the Denver area may opt to do in-person coaching in the studio or with GYROTONIC equipment (additional studio fees apply).

Q: How do I learn more or get started?

Testimonials

See what Dancers and Parents are saying about the RISE Program
I feel like I have grown so much since working with Sharon. She has helped me feel comfortable in trusting myself and my abilities in all areas of life. She also helped me realize that digging into the process of growth is so beautiful and rewarding.
Working with Sharon has been incredibly fulfilling and inspiring. She takes the time to guide me through thought processes to discover what options are best for me and my body. She truly is an amazing mentor and a lover of dance and teaching.
Madalin Autry

Pre-professional Dancer and Julliard freshman

I came to Sharon with big dreams, and lots of things to overcome.

I feel I have the most amazing mentor, and it’s giving me such confidence and an ability to be so much more calm than I normally am (I am not naturally very good at being calm and relaxing). I feel I can really hone in on the things I need in healing, with technique, with anxiety, etc. She has given me and continues to give me all kinds of exercises for my physical, mental, and emotional health. I also have someone that I can talk to, come to with worries and problems-whether it’s that I didn’t achieve something I wanted to in class, want to work on a particular step, having a bad ankle or hip day, or am not as far along in my recovery with something particular, or am feeling anxious about something-really anything!

I have come so far working with her. My hip has calmed down and keeps improving, my ankle continues to improve, my confidence is increasing, my anxiety is getting better. I feel so incredibly lucky to have Sharon as a mentor, and I highly recommend her.

I really believe any dancer can benefit from working with Sharon, especially those of us that are pre-professionals or young professionals. I can’t recommend her or the Rise program more highly! She has such a wealth of expertise and experience, and has had such an amazing career that we can all learn from. With her ballet expertise being combined with Gyrokinesis/Gyrotonics, yoga, etc. you couldn’t find a better mentor!

Pre-professional Dancer

“I absolutely love all of the program! The private sessions and group sessions are wonderful!”  ~ Cailyn Jackson

“My daughter has received numerous benefits from working with Sharon. Sharon creates an environment and relationship with her students that is truly beneficial to them individually. This has allowed my daughter to openly express her concerns, challenges and triumphs in a safe place. Sharon creates this safe space for growth and understanding in mind, body and spirit. I have seen tremendous growth in my daughter’s confidence in her abilities. Sharon strives (and succeeds) in allowing her students to find ways to best move their own bodies. Sharon guided my daughter to find ways to work with her extensions and leg/hip placement that was specific for my daughter. I have seen my daughter feel as though she can move better in her own body with great confidence. Thank you Sharon!”

Through the RISE program I have seen huge improvements in confidence, managing my stress, and the overall development of my ballet technique. I have absolutely loved my one on one sessions with Sharon. I also found the lectures to be really interesting and helpful.  The program/format was great!

Elsa Erickson

Pre-professional Dancer and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Graduate Student

Re-learning how move in space was such a big thing for me, also generally being able to improve the finer details of my technique, and anatomy, using knowledge of the human body to help myself is an incredible gift.

The whole program is so thoughtfully built I am so happy to get to take part in it

Sharon is such a lovely person/coach; I am so grateful to get to work with her!

Catalina Long

Pre-professional Dancer

Sharon: you are a gift to these young people. The kindness, generosity of spirit, experience, and knowledge you share are a really wonderful thing for the development of these teenagers as creatives, and as humans.
Erin Kachline

Parent of Pre-professional Dancer

Quite simply, our relationship with Sharon has given my daughter a cornerstone and me an anchor as we navigate the ballet world. Sharon has gently, kindly, and clearly helped my daughter evaluate her choices by asking wise questions, sharing relevant experience, being an accepting encourager, and following through to continually and constructively help her examine her path. My daughter is exponentially more peaceful, joyful, and confident knowing she has Sharon’s discerning support, keen mind, and joyful smile in her world. Sharon is helping my daughter to develop a poise as a dancer that is just a gem. I truly could not be more grateful for her guidance.

Arika Long

Parent of Pre-professional Dancer

Finding Sharon was a blessing in so many ways. She motivated, challenged and inspired Madalin physically, mentally, emotionally, creatively and artistically. Working with Sharon not only benefited her skills and technique but even more importantly she allowed Madalin a safe, supportive space to find her way back to her love for dance. Sharon and the RISE program helped clear her mind and spirit giving her the freedom to work through her challenges and confidently make difficult choices.
